Golf in Central Scotland

When taking into account the hustle and bustle of Glasgow and its surrounding area you would probably be surprised to hear that Scotland's Central region boasts 119 of genuine quality. This area is perhaps the most underrated of all the six regions that make up Scottish golf. Most tend to view the scenery around the courses elsewhere in Scotland as superior, but this particular corner of the home of golf has its fair share of surprises. A warm, early evening round of golf high up on a hill with the shimmering lights of Glasgow in the distance is quite spectacular.

The stunning Tom Weiskopf-designed Loch Lomond on Glasgow's outskirts, home to the Barclays Scottish Open, is the most notable of all, although the central region possesses a number of uncovered beauties. Buchanan Castle, Hilton Park, Westerwood and Glenbervie are only a few of the superb tracts that provide an excellent test, while being within easy reach of the city centre. Windyhill in Bearsden is another great course and is, of course, the home club of Scottish star Janice Moodie. On the outskirts of Glasgow the likes of Muckhart, Dollar and Grangemouth are all great tests that welcome the most discerning golfer.

Haggs Castle on Glasgow's southside is one of the city's finer challenges and has been host to a number of professional and amateur tournaments through the years. East Renfrewshire and East Kilbride are other great courses that are not to be ignored.

In Glasgow, accommodation is easy to come by and the nightlife is famed all over the world for obvious reasons. Golfers, therefore, will feel right at home.
