Golf in Bahamas

Boasting year-round blue skies and warm weather, the Bahamas is the perfect place to head for a golfing holiday.

Nassau averages seven hours of completely sunny skies per day and rain seldom lasts for longer than it takes to get under cover even during the rainy season.

There are eight golf courses in the Bahamas and they all provide excellent tests while, at the same time, offering some of the most stunning scenery in the world.

Cotton Bay is situated at Rock Sound on the island of Eleuthera and was designed by Robert Trent Jones. Set in a 450-acre resort, this particular Trent Jones creation features 13 water hazards and a staggering 129 bunkers. Needless to say you'll have done well if you get all the way round without visiting at least one of them.

Over on Paradise Island there are three courses, all of which measure in excess of 6700 yards.
The Paradise Island course was designed by Dick Wilson and has 11 holes beside the sea; Cable Beach, a Jim McCormick creation, has 13 lakes on it while the South Ocean courses was designed by Joe Lee.

Both Lee and Wilson also have courses in Freeport on Grand Bahama Island. In fact, the pair have designed one each at the Bahamas Princess Resort.

Lee also has a nine-holer at Fortune Hills Golf & Country Club which is semi-private while the choice on Grand Bahama Island is completed by Lucaya, which is actually the oldest club in the Bahamas.

Last but certainly not least there's also a course on The Abacos. Treasure Cay is yet another Dick Wilson creation and requires accuracy from the tee in order to find the narrow fairways.
